Initially, the green RUN LED will light up, and after one to three seconds the message "Wait until hard disk is up to speed" will be displayed. A few seconds later the VMEPROM banner should appear (see section on the next page). The terminal is now at the user’s discretion. At this point, it is advised to make a few carriage returns, to obtain the question mark prompt.The selftest command tests some I/O devices, the main memory and the system timer tick interrupt. Depending on the size of the main memory, it may last a different amount of time. Allow approximately one minute per MByte.

Introduction to VMEPROM 

The VMEPROM firmware is a full multitasking multiuser real-time system. It is stored in the on-board system flash and provides the following functionality: • Configuration of the board • Starting an application • Application hooks • Shell with over 90 commands • Programming of all on-board flash memories Booting up To start VMEPROM, the rotary switches must both be set to F.• EAGLE-10 compatible SCSI with onboard IOC (still via IOC FC68165 for softwarecompatibility), but no FDC, no application EPROM and no LANCE.

Requirements 

The installation requires only 

• a power supply 

• and an APNbus backplane. Power supply 

The power supply must meet the following specifications: 

• -48V/260 mA Mounting slot The CPU board must be mounted into an APN rack in slot 1. Preconfigured for easy installation Easy installation of the CPU board results from the factory default configuration of the memory map, the I/O devices, and the interfaces. This allows immediate use of a standard terminal via an RS-232 interface.
