The registers of the MB 87033/34 are accessible via the FORCE Gate array the I/O controller (FC68165). Detailed information concerning the SCSI controller is provided in the MB 87033/34 data sheet.

The I/O Controller (FC68165) is a general purpose I/O chip which can be used as an interface between the FLXibus and a variety of memory and I/O devices. The I/O Controller (FC68165) is fully supporting the nonmultiplexed bus structure of the FLXibus with its 32-bit data bus and 32- bit address bus. The I/O Controller (FC68165) is also supporting the dynamic bus sizing mechanism of the 68030 processor.

8-bit local I/O interface 

One of the main features of the FC68165 is the 8-bit local I/O interface. It is used for connecting slower byte-wide I/O devices to the faster FLXibus and for decoupling them from the FLXibus. The FC68165 generates all the control signals required from the I/O devices like address, chipselect and read/write signals. The I/O Controller (FC68165) can also control I/O devices which are word-wide or longword-wide. The data and address lines of those devices have to be directly connected to the FLXibus. The FC68165 contains a 4-channel DMA Controller with a transfer rate of 12 MByte/s on the FLXibus and 4 MByte/s on the 8-bit Local I/O Interface. The FC68165 further contains four 32-bit timers. It is supporting the four timer interrupts, the four DMA Controller interrupts and the external interrupts of up to eight I/O devices.

5.10.2.1Interrupt Structure of the FC68165

 The I/O Controller (FC68165) fully supports the interrupt structure of the 68030 processor. Eight external and eight internal interrupt sources are supported by the FC68165. The eight external interrupt sources are the IRQ signals from I/O devices which can directly be connected to the in terrupt inputs IRQDEV[0..7] of the FC68165. The eight internal interrupt sources are the four DMA Controller interrupts and the four timer interrupts. For each one of the 16 interrupts the priority level can be programmed.
