AS 235 Standard Software The standard software of the automation system consists of two components: – A bootstrap loader which is stored in the EPROM. – The system software which is supplied on a 5,25”–inch high–density diskette. The bootstrap loader is required to load the system software from the diskette into the AS system memory. If an error has been detected, the duplicate sector is read from the diskette. If the same checksum error occurs again after a further attempt, the system RAM is assumed to be defective. The loading operation is then aborted and an appropriate error message issued. The diskette also holds identification data stored in reserved sectors. This identification data includes the system diskette identifier, the software version number, the generation date and the number of system data to be loaded. The user may access some information through the AS command DI;.

System diskette structure with < 0.5 Mbyte

The system diskette has a redundant structure, i.e. all system data is available twice. In addition to the checksums generated by the floppy disk module, the diskette contains extra sectors with checksums, one of which exists for each sector containing system data. This checksum has been created during system disk generation using a special algorithm which can also detect multiple errors. During initial program loading, a checksum is generated from the data in each sector after the transfer, using the same algorithm as during the generation procedure. The checksum is compared with the data stored on the diskette. This checksum generation in the memory guarantees faultless data transfer from diskette to the system memory.

System diskette redundancy with < 0.5 Mbyte

It is not possible to reproduce the AS 235 system diskette using AS resources. This means that back–up copies cannot be generated. All system data is stored twice to facilitate initial program loading, if individual data sections are damaged due to electrical or mechanical impact. The entire diskette is checked for mechanical or electrical defects immediately after the bootstrapping operation has been initiated. A plaintext message is issued via operator input channel 1 if a defect is detected. The defective diskette section is identified in this message. If this error message appears, it is advisable to order a new system diskette. The original file is loaded if it has been classified as faultless during the check. The data from the duplicate file is loaded if a fault has been detected.
