External Synchronization Each AS 235 subsystem can be individually synchronized by an external minute pulse generator which synchronizes the internal AS time. External time and date values cannot be accepted. The synchronization device is connected to the blinking frequency generator module of the AS 235 power supply tier (cabinet version) or to the PAE (compact version). The external synchronization may not be used if synchronization is already provided from an OS 520/265 operator communication and monitoring system or if a bus master clock has been installed.

Data Blocks 

Data blocks are present for storing binary values, analog values and alphanumeric characters (annotations). A data block may only be used to store data of the same type (See Chap. 6). Definition of name and length of the data blocks is system–related. The AS 235 contains the following data blocks: Global blocks – GA data block for storing double precision analog variables (fast access, no variable index). – GB data block for storing binary variables (especially for binary process I/O, fast access, no variable index) – GM data block for storing binary variables (especially for binary flags, fast access, no variable index). – GT data block for setting time variables (timers) which are decremented by the system.

Field blocks 

– FA data block for storing double precision analog variables (addressing as used for block list (SET), variable index). – FSA data block for storing single precision analog variables (addressing as used for block list (SET), variable index). – FB data block for storing binary variables (addressing as used for block list (SET), variable index). – FC character block for storing alphanumeric characters and annotations (addressing as used for block list (SET), variable index).
