Internal addresses can be determined using a CHECK routine during interconnection and can then be buffered for further use. Apart from the address information proper, the system also transfers codes which disturb when used for addressing. An address which has been generated in this fashion must be made suitable for SET instructions by masking out the codes. This is best performed before the address is buffered.This masking is performed by ANDing the address with 4095. Bits 12 to 15, which contain the codes, are then cleared. If an address has been fetched from .ANAW, for example, mantissa 2, which contains the element number, will also be cleared.

The following definitions apply for parameterization: 

1. Integer values (I, ID) are always offered with exponent 15 (decimal) and in a right–justified manner in mantissa 1. Mantissa 2 is 0. 

2. Values which are insignificant for the element are undefined (e.g. .ANAW for binary elements). 

3. Strings are always stored from .STRI(0).
