Diskettes which have been produced on a system with a variant of less than D.02 can only be used for reading if a special mode has been selected. Variants before D.02 store floppy–internal data on the diskette which has to be emulated by the floppy disk interface module. An attempt to read such a diskette or to display its directory in normal mode will be rejected and an error message will be issued (F 447 – incorrect diskette format – if GB 260 = 0B or F 453 – change mode – if automatic format recognition, GB 260 = 1B, has been selected). The special mode can be activated by setting the slide switch at the front of the floppy disk interface module to position “NORM AUS”. The red LED above the slide switch blinks as long as the special mode is active

The following tables indicate the allowed combinations of hardware

parameters and operating software for the filing (and formatting) or loading of an user configuration. In the past, the so–called HEAD-LOAD function ensured that the read–write head is taken off from the diskette after using the drive with LA; or AR; or FORM;. Since the 6DS3900–8AE drive, the read–write head is only controlled by the gag on the front panel. “Open” the drive after the use with the gag, so that the read–write head is taken off.Due to the emulation, loading takes more time than in normal mode.

Explanations to table 5.3 

The relevant combinations of diskettes (hardware and software formats), drives, interface modules, system parameters and system software versions are listed in table 5.3. Output criterion for the choice of the appropriate combination is the used system software version in conjunction with the diskette type and format. The first column of the table determines the currently used system software version. The system software version used during the filing with the diskettes of the type and the format in column 6 is assigned to it. The commands indicated in column 3 determine if the executed diskette format with the corresponding hard and software combinations can only be loaded or can also be fromatted and filed. The settings on the hardware and the allowed drives complete the configuration indications
