NI PXI-4461 oscilloscope

A STEP block is not directly installed in the sequence cascade. Via configuration, it is assigned to a sequence stepper block (KS) or an interconnection block (VS) which in its turn can be installed in the sequence cascade. A STEP block can be assigned to several KS/VS blocks (multiplex technique, cf. MPX block). STEP blocks assigned to a VS/VK block as well as GB/GM/GT/GA blocks and general data record blocks referenced by STEP M instructions can be configured. This means that the process image section (or the flag timer list) to be used by the STEP M instruction sequence is specified.

The STEP M instruction list includes the following functions: – General configuration instructions/page change – Processing of binary hardware inputs/outputs – Flag processing – Timer processing – Function block parameter processing – Interconnections with and without parenthesis – Negations/NO OPs – Branch/subroutine call

An important enhancement

with respect to the AS 220 instruction set are subroutine calls and multiplex instructions. Multiplex instructions can be used for addressing data blocks according to the VS/KS parameterization. The AS 220 operand ranges (signal ranges according to AS 220 blocks VS and KS) are completely mapped in the AS 230/235. STEP M programs which have been created in an AS 220 subsystem can be transferred via the keyboard into an AS 230/235 subsystem without any major changes. When the STEP block definition is started, the AS 220 operand ranges are set to a default value. Special instructions (the multiplex instructions) can be used to switch over from the AS 220 operand ranges to the AS 220/235 operand ranges. Return to the AS 220 mode is rejected. Normally the user should utilize AS 230/235 mode

as only this takes full advantage of the machine features.

Using the AS 220 mode is only advisable: If STEP M programs are to be transferred from an AS 220 subsystem with minimum changes and if disadvantages regarding memory space and execution time are accepted.A newly defined STEP M program is compiled in an invariable mode which has been specified at the beginning. The mode selected depends on the first instruction following the STEP M program definitions. The compiler operates in an AS 230 mode if the first instruction is a data field presetting (“GB,...;“ “GM,...;” “GT,...;”). AS 220 mode is selected for any other instruction. The mode is shown in the top right–hand corner of the screen. Once the STEP block has been defined, “MODUS: AS 220” is displayed as an interim setting. A program monitoring function exists for newly defined STEP programs in AS 230 mode. A blinking warning (e.g. GT PRESETTING?) is displayed below the display title if inputs, outputs, flags or timers are used for which data field presetting values have not been defined.
