The user enters the picture instructions and decides whether or not the operator–controllable parameters of the user function block (e.g. a setpoint “W”) are to be shown in the loop display. Code “B” in the element instruction (EL,...;), which is entered during data structure definition, specifies whether or not a parameter is operator–controllable (cf. Chapter 5.3.1). The user has free choice in structuring his loop display. He can specify the data to be displayed from the data record, whether it is to be shown as a bar chart or numerically, the information which is to be supported by symbols, texts or a special color selection, and which picture areas are to be static (i.e. displayed once when the picture is selected) or dynamic (cyclically updated). The following form can be used for configuring a loop display.

LAYOUT blocks

LAYOUT blocks are defined between the framing instructions. “Name” is the name of the picture/log (up to 4 alphanumeric characters) and “intbno” is a firmly preset internal block number between 8 and 4094.If the output device is a monitor, a picture must be defined; if printout is to take place, then a log must be defined. Unlike PICTURE blocks, LAYOUT blocks are not intended to display data from a local function block; neither are they assigned to a specific function block.

They also differ with regard to the method in which their output is triggered:

a.) If a picture is to be defined, the LAYOUT block is assigned to a BILD output block. This BILD block is either activated by a selection via the process comunication keyboard or installed in the sequence cascade (cf. Chapter 9.3). b.) If a log is to be defined, the LAYOUT block is assigned to a PROT function block which can be installed in the sequence cascade (cf. Chapter 9.3). The output is performed once. LAYOUT blocks can only be installed in the sequence cascade via the BILD or PROT function blocks (cf. STEP and VS/KS blocks). In addition to the LAYOUT block there are further data elements to be parameterized and interconnected in the BILD/PROT block. It is also possible to interconnect GB/GM/GT/GA blocks and general data blocks which are then referenced by the BILD instructions (multiplex technique). The data blocks are specified indirectly in the LAYOUT block (e.g. MUX,GB,*;). it is also possible, however, to name data blocks directly (e.g.: MUX,GA,17;).
