The first TML block categories are activated by a higher–order block. This block transfers data which is accepted by the activated block. The program must eventually jump back from the activated block to the calling block. The following section describes the definition of TML blocks and the TML subroutine call. Function algorithm The system cyclically calls the function algorithm of a function block at a location in the block sequence where it has been inserted by the configuring engineer using the instruction “E,...;”. The calling block in this case is the system which is supplied by the plant, and the activated block is the new algorithm. Data transfer between the system and all function block algorithm is defined as follows: the algorithm receives an analog data item: the number of the current data record (block number).

Check algorithm 

 Function block Fixed rules exist for the definition of a check algorithm. The system is again the calling block. The check algorithm is only activated – if an element with the code C or C and B (CHECK and operator input attribute) of the associated data record is parameterized or operator–controlled (cf. “Definition of new data structures”, Chap. 5.3.1); – if an element with the codes C and Q of the associated data record is interconnected – if a data record of this function block type is defined, cleared, inserted or removed or a loop or parameterization display has been selected. Here the instruction ”EL,C;” must also be given during data structure definition. The address of the current block data record of the type “ANW” is accepted in LA1. This data record is immediately addressed via the SET instruction. .  The data items can then be addressed by their element names (elna) from this data record.

The check algorithm provides checking 

processing of each individual operator input. The operator input may then be manipulated, for example parameters other than the one entered can be changed in the data record or output of an error message can be initiated. The check algorithm interface is the system data block SL.PCHE and the operator–controlled data record of the function block. Defined data items, to which the meanings described below apply for the individual activities, are transferred via this interface.
