NI PXI-8336 Synchronization module

The length of each TML line may not exceed 54 characters; each line must always be terminated by a semicolon (;). A maximum of 50 characters per line (including semicolon) may not be exceeded when centralized configuration via bus has been selected. Each instruction may be nested up to 10 times within itself or other instructions (exception: 20–fold nesting of IF instructions). Instructions (blocks) may be concatenated as required.A branching instruction is used it two TML line sequences are executed alternately (not consecutively), depending on a comparison or a condition which can only be “true” (satisfied = 1) or “false” (not satisfied = 0).The instructions IF, THEN, ELSE and END IF must be in the given sequence; ELSE may be omitted. Up to 20 nestings of these instructions are possible. An error message is issued at the end of the program if a nesting level has not been terminated by END IF

Subroutine instruction

The utilization of subroutines may be expedient in the following cases: a.) Certain identical instruction sequences are repeated frequently in one or several blocks (in this case memory space and time can be saved by using a subroutine). b.) Individual functions are to be relocated from a larger block for clarity reasons. Before you decide in favor of a subroutine, check whether the function at hand can also be implemented using a separate function block. This method has the advantage that the individual inputs/outputs of the function can be assigned names and interconnected

Loop instructions

A sequence of TML lines or instructions to be repeatedly executed can be embedded into a loop instruction. There are two types of loops: the decrementing or down–counter loop as well as the controlled loop instructions which consists of a loop header and body. Each loop is executed at least once. a) Decrementing loop The max. number of loop executions is limited to 32,768 (for system–internal reasons).initial value of the loop (LAx)+1 = executions TML instruction block The loop body length may not exceed 255 bytes. Guidance value: one instruction line requires approx. 8 bytes. memory space. The compiler issues the error message F528 if this limit is exceeded.
