Status word processing in the OS An individual status word is reserved in the OS for each operator–accessible block which has been defined in the AS. The status message data is entered in this OS status word. The bits in the AS status word and the individual status word have different significance. The following table shows the correlation between bit numbers and individual states.The communication software combines the individual status words of the blocks, whose measuring point identifications are shown as a control field in the area display, in an OR function which provides the group status word. The group status word controls the common displays in the area display

Area overview

 All process and I&C fault alarms from all areas are shown in the area message field as common displays. Area display: The states of the loop pertaining to an area are displayed in the associated loop alarm field as block–related individual displays which are coded by symbols and colors. Only the most important alarm from a loop is shown as an individual display since only one status can be displayed. The message priority is according to their classification A before W before S before F.

Group and loop display

The states or the loops pertaining to a group are displayed in separate message fields for process and I&C alarms as block–related individual displays. The message priority is according to their classification A before W before F. Additional plaintext messages, which give a detailed specification of the fault, are shown in the loop displays when an I&C alarm occurs.Fault message acknowledgement from an OS 520/OS 265 causes an acknowledgement message to be sent to the corresponding AS 235 which transmits the acknowledged status to all OS systems logged on. This “central acknowlegement” requires only one acknowledgement from any OS 520/OS 265.
