The following rules apply for the GE settings “6,6“ , “7,6” and “8,6”: – All characters after ETX and before STX are discarded. – The following priority rule applies for semicolons and STX: A semicolon terminates the operator input string; an ETX terminates the operator input message. If a semicolon has been omitted (e.g. with “;” parity error), ETX is the end condition for the operator input string and for the message. ETX always terminates. The AS 235 subsystem monitors termination for time–out. The monitoring time is 2 minutes. A time–out caused by missing termination is treated as a “lost character” or “bad parity”.

Character–oriented stop does not exist in the AS 235.

 – An open–circuit condition after GE selection causes automatic termination after STX and a reaction as for a “lost character” (implicit error message output via output channel). An open–circuit condition after ETX cannot be detected. An open–circuit condition with these GE selections causes cyclical hardware interrupts which can only be stopped by installing the cable with an active interface or by forced RESET (ZRS).– The channel driver enters “;” in the first position of the internal input line if a fault “lost character” or “bad parity” occurs between STX and ETX. The input is processed and acknowledged by the fault indication “F 460” after the next “;”, ETX or time–out termination has been received.

Operator input/character string/special characters 

The following rules apply for receiving characters after STX: → Lower case characters at the first position cause malfunctions. → All control characters after STX are rejected, except ETX. → If “GE,6,6;” or “GE,7,6;” have been selected, the alpha characters “#” and “DEL” are considered as alpha characters (not as “rub out” characters as with the process communication keyboard). The input is not echoed in the screen input line. After each input, however, the “active asterisks” (***) are displayed in the operator input message line and indicate a “sign of life”. If a mode with “GE,6,6;” , “GE,7,6;” or “GE,8,6;” has been selected, an intermediate process communication keyboard is not permitted.
