Every second, the time counter values in the block types GT and GTV of the AS 235 system are decremented by 1. The time counter status (1st word, bit no. 8) is set from 0 to 1 as soon as the counter has reached zero (timer elapsed; alarm function possible). The time counter status is set to 0 (timer running) after the time counter value has been reloaded (in seconds).  Each timer defined in the system requires approximately 1.5 ms calculating time per second. Even defined timers of the PGT type must be decremented by the user and be checked for elapsed time. Note: In order to distinguish the (analog) value of a time counter from its (binary) status, the code word “TIME” always precedes the address when the value is retrieved

A timer that has been loaded 

with the value “0” will never execute. That means, that the subsequent condition “IF GTno” will never be true. The variable time value should therefore be tested before it is loaded and the timer status should be set to 1B (1B =: GTno;). Loading the time value in a timer which is not of the type GT, does not automatically reset the timer status (0B = timer is running). The timer status is only reset by the operating system after the time value is decremented for the first time. Therefore, the instruction ”time constant =: TIME.elna;” should be supplemented by the instruction ”0B =: .elna;”.  Timers should only be parameterized with integer numbers! Parameterization with a floating– point number causes a high count value.

If the supplement “TIME” is not present

it is always the binary counter state which is meant. A time counter in a user block (PGT) is not decremented by the system, and may be utilized by the user for counting.  Each timer defined in the system (D,GT,bname;) requires approximately 1.5 ms calculating time per second. The operating system execution of 150 timers, for example, requires approximately 10% of the online calculating time.
