Message Output/CPU Not Ready System fault indication in the form of 

– flags, logs on the monitor and printer of the operator station 

– bus message frames is not possible after the central unit (processor, memory, power supply) has failed. The monitoring functions which cause the central unit failure are related to

Direct operator input 

The operator is first notified of a failure in the AS 235 automation system central unit by a message “AS/OS SYSTEM UNKLAR” (AS/OS SYSTEM NOT READY) displayed on the process communication keyboard (phase 1). Pinpointing the defect can start subsequently (phase 2). The cabinet lamps guide the service personnel to the cabinet containing the defective item. The faulty automation system is located via the common alarm LED of the power supply units after the cabinet doors have been opened. Individual faults are indicated by the LEDs on the module front panels

I/O Error Messages 

I/O error messages are a subset for the I&C alarms and are initiated automatically after a hardware or software (self) monitoring function on the I/O module has responded. Apart from standard I/O messages, error messages from field devices can be acquired via a binary input module and fed to the input “external fault” of certain operator–controllable blocks (A, B, EM, EV, F, M, R, RN). The I/O module monitoring functions refer to the central unit link as well as to the process interface, such as: – sensor (open wire) – switchgear (m.c.b. assembly) – actuator (temperature, end position switch...)
