Status Message Frames The AS 23x only transmits status message frames. The originating block enters an occurring status message directly in an internal cyclic buffer. The fast cyclic processing level (IU12/ZYK2) transfers the message frames to the N8/N–AS job buffer. Up to seven message frames can be grouped together (cf. Chapters 8.5 and 9.3 for the structure of the status words).

Read Parameters
The process computer and the OS 265–3/OS 525 use “read parameter” message frames for reading values in the AS 23x system. Interface performance is increased by re–storing the message frames in an intermediate buffer (STRT.@PLS) on bus level (PU7). The message frames are then processed on the operator input level (PU10).The reading subsystem monitors return message frames not exceeding 64 words.An error has occurred during message frame execution (e.g. parameter cannot be found). A 0 is entered in the corresponding location of the return message frame.
Write Parameters
The process computer and the OS 265–3/OS 525 use “write parameter” message frames for servicing all values in the AS 23x subsystem. The specified check routines are executed in the AS 23x subsystem if only one parameter is written in a message frame. No check routine will be performed in the AS 23x subsystem if more than one value is written. Bit 14 = 1 (k) in “number of parameters” must be set if a message frame contains acknowledgement instructions for an MKS block. Interface performance is increased by restoring the message frames in an intermediate buffer on bus level (PU7). The message frames are then processed on the operator input level (PU10).
