Each task will provide help on its commands on typing the task prefix. For example, Modbus Master commands are shown below. To enter a command, type its prefix, a space and the command These last two commands have been highlighted because they open and close the ability to connect command line diagnostics over an Ethernet link. This will allow a site engineering workstation to access these diagnostic commands across a network, and avoids the need to physically plug into the system. By default, the Ethernet diagnostics are disabled for security.

Hierarchical Prompts 

Some tasks actually provide a second layer prompt; the prompt will change on typing the prefix. To disconnect from these prompts, type a full stop/period ‘.’ In the CI, tasks trc and 1.15 connect to a new prompt layer. 1.15 opens access to the Processor. The command line interface is then routed through to the active Processor. Similar commands route communications from the processor to a standby Processor and to CIs. It is possible to connect to the Processor and back again using these commands; note that these connections should be closed with ‘.’ before disconnecting.

Trace Diagnostics 

trc provides access to trace diagnostics (activity logging). Once in the trc:? prompt, there is no need to type trc before each command. Most of the trace diagnostics are for R&D use only, but the c command may be useful for capturing communications data.Communications data may be filtered, but the filtering is based on internal numbers for ports and sockets, not any obvious pattern. The first step therefore is to capture all data and identify the socket and port numbers for the data of interest. Type ‘c’ to check that filtering is turned off. The three filters should show [off].
