The DMC-18x2 has a set of commands that directly interrogate the controller. When the command is entered, the requested data is returned in decimal format on the next line followed by a carriage return and line feed. The format of the returned data can be changed using the Position Format (PF), Variable Format (VF) and Leading Zeros (LZ) command. See Chapter 7 and the Command Reference.Most DMC-18x2 commands have corresponding operands that can be used for interrogation. Operands must be used inside of valid DMC expressions. For example, to display the value of an operand, the user could use the command: MG ‘operand’ where ‘operand’ is a valid DMC operand

Overview 

The DMC-18x2 provides several modes of motion, including independent positioning and jogging, coordinated motion, electronic cam motion, and electronic gearing. Each one of these modes is discussed in the following sections. The DMC-1812 is a single axis controller and uses X-axis motion only. Likewise, the DMC-1822 uses X and Y, the DMC-1832 uses X,Y,and Z, and the DMC-1842 uses X,Y,Z,and W. The example applications described below will help guide you to the appropriate mode of motion.

Independent Axis Positioning 

In this mode, motion between the specified axes is independent, and each axis follows its own profile. The user specifies the desired absolute position (PA) or relative position (PR), slew speed (SP), acceleration ramp (AC), and deceleration ramp (DC), for each axis. On begin (BG), the DMC-18x2 profiler generates the corresponding trapezoidal or triangular velocity profile and position trajectory. The controller determines a new command position along the trajectory every sample period until the specified profile is complete. Motion is complete when the last position command is sent by the DMC-18x2 profiler. Note: The actual motor motion may not be complete when the profile has been completed, however, the next motion command may be specified.
