Configuration Files A unique configuration file is required for each phone. The MAC address of the phone is used to identify the appropriate file for downloading. When the phone boots up, it checks the FTP/TFTP server for its specific configuration file. The file must be stored on the FTP/TFTP server in the following format: adtran_.txt Thevariable is the MAC address of the phone that will use the configuration file. All file names for configuration files must be titled in lowercase letters. 

Configuration files can be broken 

into sections to separate the more commonly modified parameters (such as line key definitions) from those that don’t change very often. The Include parameter can be used to call another configuration file that contains parameters (such as the proxy server address) that seldom change. When writing a configuration file, the following restrictions apply: • Each parameter must appear on its own line. Apair is entered for each parameter. Themay be separated by an arbitrary number of spaces or tabs. • Any combination of uppercase or lowercase letters can be used within the configuration file because it is not case sensitive. • Spaces are not permitted in any of the configuration values unless quotation marks are used. • Comments may be included in a configuration file by starting the comment line with the # character.

This section explains how to define many of the parameters required to operate an IP phone. Each example shows either the steps to setting the parameter through the phone’s user interface, or provides the content to add to the configuration files. Setting the Password A password can be configured on the IP phone using the phone’s user interface. The password restricts access to advanced settings not meant for the common user. To change the password, follow these steps: 1. Select Menu. 2. Select 2 for Phone Settings. 3. Select 8 for Password. 4.
