Because the LUDLUM 2401-P is integrated in the ModbusPlus network, the front-end computer supports opening eight channels to communicate with the field station at the same time. In the SCADA system, 20 field stations are divided into 8 groups, of which four computer stations are separate groups to support large communication data and ensure real-time performance. Other unmanned operation stations are allocated to 4 groups and use the round-robin method to request data.

The alternate route of LUDLUM 2401-P system is PSTN public telephone network. BM85 is connected to the telephone network through a modem. This project uses dial-up mode to connect with each station. When the satellite channel fails, the standby route starts to be enabled. Because the whole system is designed with four diallines, FEP still uses the round robin mode to access each station. With the time of dialing, answering and hanging up, the speed is much slower than VSAT communication.
